This dilemma examines the balancing act of publicising our practice whilst retaining confidentiality and client trust.  This is something that we look at as part of our Level 4 Diploma - this particular set of results show that there a number of ways that we can try and square the circle of promoting our business locally - and as is often the case there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach.

The dilemma in full:

You have been working as a counsellor for a number of years in a small community and have been approached by a local magazine to do an interview about the positives and the pitfalls of working as a counsellor in private practice in a small town.

You feel this is a great opportunity for helping to build your practice further and spread the word about your local counselling service, but as the magazine will go to every address within the town and surrounding areas you are concerned about how clients might feel when they read it.

What would you do?
